After 34 years of handling major litigation cases, 26 years for Defense, then 8 years on behalf of the Plaintiff, Dr. Skiver is now concentrating his focus on the mediation of difficult cases. He has trained at the renowned Pepperdine/Caruso School of Law and the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution as a Neutral Mediator, and is now available for mediation in person or by ZOOM.

Dr. Skiver began a very active trial practice as lead counsel in medical malpractice cases in multiple states in 1989. He has handled nearly a thousand major legal matters involving issues of medical malpractice, trucking and other personal injury litigation in Ohio, Arizona, Michigan, West Virginia, Texas and New Mexico. AV rated by Martindale Hubbell, he has taken part in arbitrations and mediations, and over his career has tried major cases to verdict in more than 80 jury trials throughout the United States at State or Federal levels.

In 2010, in recognition of his skill and experience in the courtroom, Dr. Skiver was chosen for admission as a Fellow to the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers and was inducted at that time into the College at its annual meeting in Washington, D.C.. As noted by ACTL, membership is by invitation only and limited to those trial lawyers who are eminently qualified and regarded as the best in their state. This very select group never exceeds 1% of the population of lawyers in any given state.

As the cost of litigation increases both in time and expense, mediation has become the wave of the future. It can lower the expense of preparing for a trial and shorten the time to an outcome by months to years. In addition to this, the emotional impact of avoiding a trial cannot be overstated. A mediation can be completed in most cases within a single day.

As a highly experienced trial lawyer with an extensive medical background Dr. Skiver is acutely aware of the issues that prevail in the courtroom that can affect the outcome of litigation. This background experience is very helpful for both Plaintiff and Defense in bringing the matter to an agreed upon close.
